There are many beneficial and malefic effects of planetary positions in astrology. When there is a major malefic influence, it is called a Dosha. One of the most feared Dosha is Kala Sarpa Dosha. Moreover, there are many different types of Kalasarpa Dosha.
What is the Kalasarpa Dosha?
This Dosha occurs when all the planets are placed between Rahu and Ketu. Rahu and Ketu are always in the seventh house from each other. If all the other planets reside within these seven houses and the other houses in the natal chart are empty, the person has Kala Sarpa Dosha.
Kala Sarpa Dosha Meaning
Kala or Kaal means time. Sarpa means snake. Kala also indicates Yama, the Lord of Death. So, Kala symbolizes time and mortality and Sarpa symbolizes snake and poison. Kalasarpa Dosha thus indicates a period when the native suffers from the harmful effect of planetary positions in his natal chart.
The Kala Sarpa Dosha Types
Chiefly, there are two basic types of Kala sarpa dosha:
- Savya Kalasarpa Dosha: The nine planets trapped between Rahu-Ketu are moving clockwise from Rahu towards Ketu
- Apasavya Kalasarpa Dosha: In this case, the planets are moving in an anticlockwise direction from Ketu towards Rahu.
Remember, Rahu is the head and Ketu is the tail. Ketu is often less malefic than Rahu, so some consider the Apasavya Kala Sarpa Dosha as less harmful.
