How You Time Marriage

The most unique feature of Vedic astrology is the system of Dashas. While other systems rely solely on transits and planet returns, Vedic astrology has the additional feature of Dashas. With this, we can very accurately time events including marriage. To time the marriage of a person we need to study the houses, planets, Navamsa, Dashas and additionally transits to arrive at an accurate conclusion.

Delay Or Denial Of Marriage

The first step in timing marriage is checking if the person has a chart that shows a denial of marriage. If there is a very strong indication of denial of marriage in the chart and supported by the divisional charts, there is no point in going further with analysis. No transit or Dasha can give what the basic birth chart does not indicate.

If there is a delayed marriage signified then the time period will have to be looked for accordingly. One must keep in mind that there should be a thorough understanding of the cultural background of the person whose chart is being studied. The astrologer should be able to converse freely and ask pertinent questions before reaching conclusions. To some people, a person’s marriage by the age of 21 is normal while for others that would be an absurdly young age. Some cultures would consider before 30 as early marriage and after 30 as a late marriage.

How did Jothishi develop the Marriage Predictor Engine?

The Engine is a comprehensive 400 rule set code. Various parameters that affect a persons marriage have been taken into account to build this engine. Currently the Engine predicts with around 79 percent accuracy provided the input details and the age range is accurate.

Assessing The Chart for Marriage

One must identify the 7th lord, planets in the 7th house of both the Rashi chart and the Navamsa chart. One must also identify the planet that is the Darakaraka or the planet with the lowest degree in the chart. The other houses that are interlinked with marriage are the 2nd house, 5th house and 11th house. The 2nd house is the house of family and the 11th is the house of gains. The 5th is also the house that is the 11th from the 7th and hence the gains of the spouse.

Nakshatra And Rashi Dasha Systems

The Vimshottari Mahadashas and Antardashas of any of these planets could indicate marriage. Marriage can also happen in Venus, Jupiter and Rahu Mahadashas. At least two Dasha systems should be used to study the timing for marriage. It will help to more accurately predict the time of marriage.

To get an even more precise estimate of the time, one should also study the aspects that these planets are receiving. A favourable transit will be the trigger for the event once the Dasha supports.

The Timing Is In the Stars
The Timing Is In the Stars

The timing is not so straightforward when the person has passed the most likely Mahadashas when too young to get married. Then the astrologer has to look for other clues to time marriage. This is the point when the indication of late marriage is most applicable. If late marriage is indicated then perhaps there would be a long time before the Dasha change and marriage. But if there are no delays in marriage shown in the chart the sub-periods or Antardashas have to be studied with the marriage causing planets in mind.  This is also where using a Nakshatra based Dasha system (usually Vimshottari) along with a Rashi based system makes the task easier.

If one is at a loss to precisely time the even through the Rashi chart, the Navamsa can be of additional help. The Navamsa is the divisional chart that is the most significant in matters of marriage. So, the Antardasha of the lord of the 1st house or 7th house of the Navamsa will have a role to play in the Dasha or Antardasha of marriage. Some astrologers consider the 1st, 5th and 9th houses of the Navamsa to be closely related to marriage.

Atmakaraka

As mentioned earlier, the planet with the highest degree is called the Atmakaraka. This is based on the Karaka system of Jaimini. The Rashi that this planet occupies in the Navamsa chart is called the Karakamsa. The Dasha that this Rashi’s occupants or its lord indicate is a probable time of marriage. Some astrologers use the Rashi that this planet occupies as the ascendant and read the chart from this point of view.

Once the likely time periods have been established, the transits of the major slow-moving planets at the time are studied. The time when the transit is favourable can be determined as the most likely time for marriage.

Thus the timing of marriage can be located by a study of the Rashi chart and the Navamsa.
