Wargal is a small town located in Siddipet District in Telangana. It is 60 kilometers from Hyderabad and situated on the Karimnagar Highway. Wargal Saraswati temple is one of the few temples of goddess Saraswati in Telangana, besides the Gnana Vidya Saraswati temple in Basar.

Wargal Saraswati temple is located on a small hillock. There are various other temples on this hill. Hence this factor made the Petam committee choose this location. The hill has temples dedicated to Lord Shiva, Lord Lakshmi Ganapati, and a huge 3 feet tall statue of Lord Shani. This is the biggest and most renowned temple of Shani Dev in Telangana. There are also two Vaishnav temples present here.

Wargal Saraswati Temple History

Yayavaram Chandrashekhara Sharma founded the temple. He was a scholar and a very ardent devotee of Goddess Saraswati. The Kanchi Shanker Mutt has been taking care of the temple’s maintenance since 1999.

In 1989, the foundation stone of the Wargal Saraswati temple was placed on Vasant Panchami. This is an auspicious day when the whole country celebrates Saraswati Puja.

In 1998, after collecting sufficient money in the form of donations the Satya Petam Seva Samiti took up the task of finding a location for the temple building. Finally, they selected the Wargal hill. This hill is also home to the 400-year-old Lord Shambhunath temple. This temple is 2 feet below the ground level. It also had two Vaishnav temples. The hill has a scenic background and the temple is visible from all surrounding areas due to its height from ground level.

In 1992, Sri Vidya Nrisimha Bharti Swami, Magashudda Trayodashi Petadipati laid the foundation stone for the Devi Saraswati and Lord Shani shrines. Kanchi Petam committee started a Vedic school in the year 1999 for students who wanted to learn Vedic knowledge. The inaguration for Lord Lakshmi Ganpati inauguration took place in 2001.

The Akshara Abhyasam ritual starts from 8:10 am or 8: 30 am. It depends on the number of devotees present. If you want to do the Akshara Abhyasam for your child you will have to get in the queue. You will have to purchase a ticket for this pooja. Tickets are available at the counter in the temple. Ticket for Akshara Abhyasam will cost you Rs.150. It’s available on a first come first serve basis. The ceremony will be held in batches. When the ritual is completed for the first batch, then it begins for the next one. This will continue until the temple doors are closed. The earlier you go to the temple for this ritual, higher are the chances of earlier participation in it.

You must remember take receipts of every payment you make at the counter. Only what you put in Hundis will not be billed, and hence no receipts will be available for that.

Wargal Saraswati Temple Darshan Timings

The first darshan at the temple starts from 6:00 am and lasts till 7:00 am. This darshan takes place during the Abhisheka Seva. After this, darshan is closed during the Alankara Seva, which takes one hour. The darshan again starts from 8:00 am. This will continue till 12:30 pm or 2:00 pm, depending on what day of the week it is. The temple darshan ends with the Pradosha Kaala Visesha Pooja from 7:10 pm to 7:30 pm. Devotees will get Theertha Prasadams after this pooja. After this, the temple doors will be closed.

Various types of poojas and rituals are carried out in the Wargal Saraswati temple. For witnessing or performing these poojas, devotees have to get tickets from the temple counter. There are nine forms of services or poojas performed in the sanctum of Devi Saraswati. Besides, each pooja has a fixed price that is also mentioned on the temple’s website. Devotees can pre-book these services or pay for it at the counter at the time of their visit. These poojas are:

The Mandala Pooja at Rs 500, the Akshar Abhyasam at Rs 200;, the Visesha Moola with Chandi Homam at Rs 200,the Abhishekam at Rs 200, the Kumkum-Archana at Rs 25, Cheere (Sari) Rs. 10 , Odi Biyyam at Rs 10, the Mudupu at Rs 10 and the Annaprasanam at Rs 10.

Likewise, there are also several pooja services for Lord Ganpati and Lord Shani. Additionally, there are also poojas performed for compensating for astrological or horoscope faults or doshas.Also known as the Moola Nakshatra Pooja, it is priced at Rs 5,120.

Other major poojas performed in the temple are the Shaswatha pooja, Anna Daanam Nidhi, and the Veda Nidhi. These poojas also have a charitable aspect to them wherein devotees can sponsor meals for students or contribute rice to the free meals scheme.

Wargal Saraswati Temple Timings

The temple timings from Monday to Thursday are from 6:00 am to 12:30 pm. Additionally, from Friday to Sunday the temple’s morning timings are extended for the weekend devotees. On these days the temple remains open from 6:00 am to 2:00 pm. The evening session is the same on all days. It is from 4:00 am to 7:30 pm.

Hyderabad is 48 km from Wargal. The temple is located on the Karimnagar Highway which you can easily reach by taking a bus from near the Secunderabad Railway station. By road, there are also TSRTC buses from the Jubilee bus station in Secunderabad. Generally, buses to Karimnagar and Siddipet stop on the Wargal X route upon requesting the driver.
